Main venue

Brno is the city where genetics were discovered by the monk Johann Gregor Mendel, where architect Adolf Loos was born and where Leoš Janáček composed much of his famous musical work. It is also the metropolis of Moravia, and the base destination for many tourists who come to explore the natural and cultural beauties of the South Moravian Region. It boasts numerous historical sights and attractions; labyrinth of cellars and underground tunnels testify to the variety of life on medieval Zelný trh (Cabbage Market), works by major 20th century architects are on display in unique heritage sights such as Villa Tugendhat – ' a pearl of functionalism' – and Villa Jurkovič.

Brno is the cultural capital of the region, hosting a number of significant cultural events each year. Key mentions include the music festivals of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra such as Moravian Autumn and JazzFest Brno as well as the Theatre World Festival and the international fireworks competition Ignis Brunensis. Other interesting venues include the Observatory and Planetarium and VIDA! Science Center for the Whole Family.

How to get to Brno

Getting to Brno by Air

BRNO AIRPORT is located 7.5 km southeast from the centre of Brno, just on the edge of historical Austerlitz Battlefield.

There are regular flights from London, Malaga and Rome.

You can get from the airport to the city centre using the direct bus line No. E76 (bus goes every 30/60 minutes, travel time 20 minutes). The bus arrives to the Brno Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží).

VIENNA SCHWECHAT AIRPORT (approx. 150 km from Brno; 2-2.5 hours by bus or train)

There are direct buses from the Vienna Airport to Brno by Student Agency, Flixbus or Gepard Express.

You can also use the train connection between Vienna and Brno: regional trains run from Vienna Airport (Flughafen Wien) to the Main Train Station in Vienna (Wien Hbf), followed by frequent direct trains to Brno (by České dráhy or Regiojet). We recommend ordering tickets online via www.oebb.at.   

VÁCLAV HAVEL AIRPORT PRAGUE (aprox. 250 km from Brno; 3-3.5 hours by bus or train)

There are direct buses from Prague Airport to Brno offered by Student Agency or Flixbus.

You can also use the train connection between Prague and Brno: EC or regional trains from Praha

Hlavní nádraží (Prague Main Station). We recommend ordering tickets online via idos.idnes.cz/en/vlaky

BRATISLAVA AIRPORT (approx. 140 km from Brno; 2-2.5 hours by bus and train)

There is not a direct connection from Bratislava Airport to Brno. You can take the bus No. 61 from the airport to the Main Railway Station and from there continue by direct train to Brno. We recommend ordering train tickets online via idos.idnes.cz/en/vlaky.

By Rail

Brno is an important railway junction of Czech Republic.

Thanks to the support from the city of Brno for sustainable mobility, you can enjoy two rides a day on Nextbike and Rekola bicycles for 30 minutes each for free!

Public transport

The public transport in Brno operates 24/7 and there is a Beep and Go ticket terminal in every vehicle, allowing you to buy tickets with your card – pipniajed.cz.
