Room: Le Labo, ground floor

  • Kätti Rob & Elisa Donders (Territorial Knowledge Department, perspective.brussels)

Title: Brussels as neighbourhood city

Abstract: Brussels is developing into a neighbourhood city: a concept also known as a proximity city or 10/15-minute city. The neighbourhood city is a city on a human scale, built up of strong local centres with their own character and space for active mobility, supported by good public transport. A toolkit and manual with strategic and regulatory recommendations for the gradual transformation of Brussels into a neighbourhood city was developed to support a learning organisation in the Brussels Capital Region.

  • Imre Keserű (Deputy Director of the Mobilise Research Group, VUB Brussels)

Title: Making the 15-minute city work beyond the centre: Imagining 15-minute accessibility in urban outskirts

Abstract: Drawing on findings from the DREAMS DUT project, this keynote presentation explores how residents in the urban outskirts perceive, experience, and imagine 15-minute neighbourhood accessibility. Combining a survey of over 750 residents in Brussels with participatory workshops and the DREAMS map-based decision-support tool, it highlights the barriers people face in accessing everyday amenities locally as well as the policy pathways to support more equitable neighbourhood accessibility beyond the urban core developed through a backcasting workshop.
