How to get to Rome

By Plane

Rome is served by two main airports:

    • Train: The Leonardo Express connects FCO to Roma Termini station in about 32 minutes.
    • Taxi: Fixed fare to the city center (inside the Aurelian Walls).
    • Bus: Several shuttle bus companies run services to Termini Station.
  • Ciampino Airport (CIA) – Mainly used by low-cost and regional airlines, about 15 km southeast of Rome.
    • Bus + Metro/Train: Shuttle buses connect the airport to Termini or nearby metro stations.
    • Taxi: Fixed fare to the city center.

By Train

Rome is a major rail hub and easily reachable from across Italy and Europe.

  • Roma Termini: The main station, centrally located and well connected to public transport.
  • Roma Tiburtina: A major high-speed rail station, often used by Frecciarossa and Italo trains.

High-speed trains connect Rome with Florence, Milan, Naples, Venice, and Turin. Regional and international trains also arrive daily.

Local transportation

Rome has an extensive public transportation network operated by ATAC:

  • Metro: Three main lines (A, B/B1, and C) connect major areas of the city.
  • Buses & Trams: Wide coverage, including areas not served by the metro.
  • Tickets: Valid across buses, trams, and metro. Options include single tickets, 24/48/72-hour passes, and weekly passes.
  • Taxis: Official taxis are white with a taxi sign on top. Fixed fares apply for airport transfers.
  • Walking: Many central attractions are within walking distance, especially in the historic center.
