Streets are the backbones of urban life; when designed with people at their heart, they transform into vibrant social spaces where communities gather, play, rest and move. Streets are also critical infrastructure for climate resilience, for example providing shelter from the heat. Yet, reimagining streets as spaces for people—rather than mere traffic corridors—can face significant backlash.
This policy dialogue brings together a representative of DG MOVE with elected representatives from Brussels-Capital Region, Utrecht, and Zagreb to share the challenges they face and positive steps they are taking in transforming European streets to address today’s social and climate challenges.
The panel discussion will be moderated byThomas Lymes, Policy Director at Eurocities and followed by a Q&A with the audience.
This event is co-organised by Eurocities and Cerema as part of the EU-funded project REALLOCATE.

The event will take place at the Maison Irène et Frédéric Joliot-Curie located 100 Rue du Trône 1050 Bruxelles.
The venue is accessible by train (station: Bruxelles-Luxembourg), metro (lines 2 or 6, stop: Trône/Troon) or by bus (lines 95, 38 and 34, stop: Idalie).
