- European Quarter: Archipel 2 and Lieu d'Europe

Archipel 2 is the latest urban project in Strasbourg's European Quarter, with the aim of turning it into a truly living, mixed-use district, an ecological and social showcase on a European scale, and a laboratory for the Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus. To this end, an unprecedented process of co-construction of real estate projects between developers and occupants, evaluated by an international jury, was initiated in the summer of 2022. In March 2024, the four winning projects were unveiled, forming a programme of 24,000 m² of housing and business space that combines resilient urban planning, social inclusion, environmental excellence and the district's European and international vocation. Come and discover the projects that will be delivered by 2028!

Since 2014, the Lieu d'Europe has been Strasbourg's cultural and educational institution dedicated to promoting European citizenship, Europe, its values and its institutions. For its 10th anniversary and after more than a year of renovation work, the new-style Lieu d'Europe reopened its doors to the public in March 2024, offering a new permanent interactive exhibition, a 500 m² extension dedicated to conferences, screenings, concerts, readings and educational workshops, as well as its refurbished park. The Lieu d’Europe also promotes the European Heritage Label awarded to the European Quarter by the European Commission, and invites you to discover the institutions of the European quarter on a walk along the banks of the canals that surround the buildings. Whether you choose the visit of the new Lieu d’Europe or the guided walk of the European quarter, the Lieu d'Europe team is waiting for you!

- Solidarity: Espace égalité and KaleidosCOOP

At the heart of the COOP district, a link between France and Germany, the former industrial site of Coop Alsace (a food distribution cooperative), now being redeveloped as a mixed residential and business district, you will discover two sites that perpetuate the Coop's spirit of solidarity.

The Espace égalité (Equality Space) offers children an interactive and fun way to familiarise themselves with the criteria for discrimination, understand how they conflict with the law, become aware of diversity (of identities, families, origins, backgrounds, languages, scripts, religions, places and lifestyles), learn about equality between girls and boys, and develop their critical thinking skills against discrimination. The Equality Space is unique in France, and has been open all year round since 2019!

Opening in 2022, KaleidosCOOP is a cross-border third space for economic cooperation focusing on the social and solidarity economy and the creation of solidarity-based businesses and services. It offers offices, coworking spaces, an incubator, an events room, a café and a responsible shop, workshops and conferences, and information to entrepreneurs on both sides of the Rhine.

- Energy Hub: R-Pas  (instead of Two shores: BSW steelworks)

At the Port of Strasbourg, companies improve their carbon footprint and supply heat to neighbouring districts. The heat produced by industrial production or transformation processes is a highly valuable energy resource for local communities. As Ademe (Agence de la transition énergétique) points out, the recovery and valorization of waste heat is today the leading source of renewable heat in France.

This is the ambition behind R-PAS, Strasbourg's low-carbon heating network, work which began in early September. Initiated in 2015 as part of a partnership between the Port Autonome de Strasbourg and energy company R-CUA, this project is the fruit of close dialogue with the Port's industrial partners. The Port of Strasbourg's initial idea was to study the possibility of creating synergies between industrial companies and then recovering the surplus heat by exporting it to nearby neighbourhoods via new or existing district heating networks - and thus contribute to the decarbonization of the region.
