Public Transport
Athens has an affordable and extensive public transport network, including the metro, buses, trams and suburban railway, making it easy to travel around the city and surrounding areas.
Metro
The Athens Metro consists of three lines connecting the city centre, key attractions, Piraeus Port, and Athens International Airport. It is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to get around the city.
Buses and Trams
A comprehensive network of buses and trams connects central Athens with residential districts, coastal areas and major transport hubs. Airport express buses operate 24 hours a day.
Tickets
The same ticket can be used across all public transport modes. A standard ticket costs €1.20 and is valid for 90 minutes. Visitors can also purchase daily, multi-day or tourist travel passes. Contactless payment is accepted across the network.
